An ultimate goal of a molecular biologist is to use genetic data
in order to reveal fundamental cellular processes, and their
impact on complex organisms. In order to achieve this goal one
has to study complex systems of several genes and proteins, which
carry out a specific function, rather than single genes. Such
research can help identify proteins and genes associated with
human diseases, which has huge practical importance.
Gene networks describe functional pathways in a given cell or
tissue, representing processes such as metabolism, gene
regulation, transport and signal transduction.
